First trip with a 6 month old…advice?

My husband and I are going on our first mini-vacation with our 6 month old daughter. We are going with his parents and some friends and co-workers (my husband’s dad is his boss).

We will be sleeping in a tent, though the other families are bringing campers, so if it starts to rain we can go inside with them.

Any advice on things we should bring for Emily’s first trip away from home? I’ve already packed:

Formula & bottles
3 pacifiers (better to be safe than sorry!)
Baby food & spoons
Bibs & burp rags
Diapers & wipes
Several sets of clothes and socks
3 blankets (her taggie blanket, a lighter fuzzy blanket, and a heavier blanket)
Pack-and-play (and sheet for it)
Some toys
Bug spray
Bug net for carseat and stroller
Sunscreen
Tylenol
Orajel

Can anyone think of any other supplies that would necessary? We will be gone Friday morning through Sunday night.

Thank you for all your help!

It sounds like you planned well. The only thing I can think of is a teething ring and maybe a hat. Don’t forget the camera! Have fun!!

(BTW… I honestly wasn’t trying to be rude when I answered your last question. That’s the one subject that gets my blood boiling for some reason. I didn’t mean to come across as hateful though, I’m sorry if I did.)

stroller snugride
Chicco Keyfit, Graco Snugride or Peg Perego?

Which of these three car seats should I get, if I do end up getting an infant seat? At this point we are still planning on using just a convertible, but haven’t completely made up our mind. These three will work with the Uppababy stroller that we think we have decided on 🙂

I’m not a mom, we are TTC #1, but I have done a ton of babysitting and nannying and have dealt with all three of these seats. The Peg is the nicest, most cushy looking seat, but it is EXTREMELY heavy, so if you are doing any plane travel, etc, it gets bulky. The Graco is alright, and I thought it was the best until I used the Chicco. The fabric is fantastic, seems super comfortable and is so easy to get in and out of the base and stroller. It is a little heavier than the Graco, but seems to be totally worth it. If you decided not to do the infant seat, my favorite convertible is the Britax Marathon, it is super easy to use and all the kids I have had in that seat have been very comfy and safe!

I hope I helped!

carrycot stroller

how much do you think is reasonable to charge for an icandy cherry travel system?

i want to sell an icandy cherry travel system used and in great condition but i have no idea what sort of price is reasonable. It was given to me by a friend but it’s fudge colour and i wanted a more girlie pram so i haven’t used it. i said i’d sell it for her but i can’t find a price for a new one, all the sites i’ve been on say to contact them for a price so i don’t know what it was originally worth. It’s the whole system carrycot stroller and car seat all in excellent condition. Any ideas?

They are usually around £700.

I would sell it for £300 as it is new. Try it on ebay.

inglesina stroller
How much does the hood on the Maclaren Triumph weigh?

I have the both the Maclaren Volo and XLR. I am debating getting another for flights and what not but still want a light weight stroller. I am trying to decide between the Maclaren Triumph and the Inglesina Trip. The Triumph weighs about 11 lbs WITHOUT the hood and the Trip weight about 14 lbs WITH the hood. I’m just trying to figuire out the approx. weight on the Triumph hood to be able to compare these 2 strollers.

I can’t say exactly how much, but I know the hood doesn’t weigh a whole 3lb! I doubt it even weighs 1lb.

Umbrella Stroller Lightweight Reclining

umbrella stroller lightweight reclining

umbrella stroller lightweight reclining

What is the Best Umbrella or Lightweight Stroller?

My daughter is almost 10 months old and has outgrown her infant car seat with stroller so I have sold it. I am now looking for a umbrella or lightweight stroller. I have looked at the jeep stroller and really like them but no basket underneath and the do not recline. What do you recommend. I am not wanting to spend an arm and a leg either. thanks

I don’t know what is the best, but be sure you can try them out for yourself. I have purchased 2 and was disappointed in them. Both of them had handles that were so low that I had to stoop over to push them. It was awkward and uncomfortable after just a few minutes of pushing. Bare that in mind. Also, you will want one that reclines, even if it’s just a little bit.

Good luck!

Stroller With Bassinet

Friday, January 6th, 2012

stroller with bassinet

stroller with bassinet

How early before are you pregnant moms getting everything ready for the baby?

I’m young, 18. I just got an apartment with my boyfriend and 31 weeks pregnant. I have a large basket full of newborn sized clothes, a trash bag full of 0-3 month sized clothing, a trash bag full of 3 month sized clothing. and a bag of some various sizes mostly 3-6 months but some bigger. I have to plastic bags filled with shoes and boots sizes 0-4 . I have a basket with socks, hats, and bibs. I have a stroller, bassinet, and definitely recieving a crib and carseat from various people. When should I be washing the baby clothing and putting it away in the bureau? How many months of clothing sizes should be stocked in the bureau? I have not had my baby shower yet is October 16th. i’m hoping that will provide me with the other things I need, I also have 600 saved. What should i be doing if anything to prepare? Do You think i have everything I need ?

You can start washing the clothing whenever you want and putting them away. Just make sure that you wash the babies clothing in a detergent like Dreft or All Baby. Babies can go through multiple outfits in one day, so I would make sure to put as much as possible of each size in the bureau. As for sizes, you sound like your pretty set on that. More than likely your baby will wear NB and 0-3 for a while, especially if its a small baby. You may want to get a few preemie outfits however. I would say at least 3 or 4 and you can buy more preemie after the baby is born if you need more of that size.

You are going to need a lot of diapers, but hopefully you will get a lot of that at the baby shower. As well as wipes. When you get the diapers don’t open the packs of diapers until you need them because if you end up with more size NB or size 1 than you need then you can take them back and either exchange them for a bigger size or get your money back. But the diapers must be unopened for the store to accept them. Also make sure that you take your licenses/ID and that you are at least 18 years old or Wal-Mart won’t accept the items.

Your also going to need bath stuff like shampoo, lotion, and body wash. Baby towels and washcloths and a baby bath tub will also be needed. You’ll also need receiving blankets and swaddling blankets. My sister has a 3 month old baby and she loves the blankets from Carters and Osh Kosh. When they are on sale you can get them for $10. They are adorable, reversible, and just the right thickness so they aren’t too thick or too thin. Bottles and nipples will also be needed, and if you are formula feeding you may want to get one or two things of formula to begin your baby on. This may change, depending on if your baby is sensitive or not to certain formulas so don’t get a lot of formula before he is born. I would buy a pack of pacifiers and not anymore, simply because some babies like pacifiers while others don’t. So just start off with a pack of 2 or 3 and see what your babies preferences are. You mentioned getting a crib from someone, but make sure you have a mattress for it because those don’t come with the crib itself. You’ll also need bedding for it and you may want to consider getting a mobile. Other things you might WANT, but the baby doesn’t have to have is a swing, an activity play mat (babies start using this around 2 months), a bottle warmer, a wipe warmer, baby monitors, a diaper genie, and a bouncer.

Checking car seat on airplane?

Is there anything I can use to put my 8 month old son’s Graco car seat in to check it so it won’t get as dirty as last time? I am planning to bring the stroller to the gate as it worked well for us last time we flew. I don’t really want to buy a travel bag if I don’t have to because we are leaving in a few days and I already have plenty to do! Last time they wouldn’t give us any bag to put it in at the airline (American).

We carried our carseat on the plane and stored it in the overhead. It stayed clean and didn’t get bumped around at all.

Stroller Grip

stroller grip

Is your toddler a runner?

I just want to know I’m not alone here!

My 2 year old is a runner! Whenever we go out, if he is not in his stroller, I have to keep a tight grip on his hand when he walks. The instant I (or my husband) let go……he’s off!!! Running like the wind! And he’s so fast!

I see little kids walking with their parents at the park or the mall, and I wonder how they do it? It’s like my son is trying to escape our family! And he’s wearing me out! 🙂

I’m sure some day he’ll outgrow it. Has anyone had a toddler who eventually outgrew it?

Yes.. mine is a runner.. I love the scandalized looks from other moms when she darts off in the clothing store hiding in the racks and whatnot. Honestly I think boring babies turn out to be boring people 🙂

Travel Stroller Car Seat

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

travel stroller car seat

travel stroller car seat

Which is the best baby stroller/car seat and why?

I’m trying to decide on a lightweight stroller & convertible car seat or travel system with an infant car seat, and I was just looking for some opinions. thanks!

What I usually recommend to parents who come in and ask me this question is a Graco Infant Car seat and the Graco Snap and Go. Why? Graco has good quality products without the ridiculously high price tag. If you’re registering, who is going to spend $700 on a stroller for you? Can you afford to pay that much? The Snap and Go is VERY lightweight, and folds down with ease. It is a stroller without all of the heavy, clunky plastic parts. The car seat will attach on and click so you hear that it is on securely. Many Graco infant car seats now go up to 30 or even 32 pounds so you can use them for a while.

By the time the baby is out of the car seat (weight wise or otherwise), you can invest in an umbrella stroller (McLarens are the best…excellent quality). The next step for car seats is a convertible car seat that can go rear facing or forward facing (many also can do booster set positions later on). For this, Britax is the best, and the Evenflo Symphony are a good, cheaper (but still safe) alternative. Some people say that you should keep your little one rear facing longer than the 22 pounds and 1 year that is required by law, if you agree with this sentiment, look for one that suits your preference.

Having said all this, you should really go to the store and play around with the products. See what you think of them and if they will work for you.

I do not under any circumstances reccomend Evenflo, Eddie Bauer, or Combi for strollers. They are VERY lousy in quality. Combi car seats I would be leary of because their strollers are so bad.

Stroller Double

stroller double

What type double stroller is better in your opinion?

So When My baby is due my daughter will be 2 yr 3 months… so we need a double stroller… I like the tandem kinds but hubby likes side by side… in your opinion what pro and cons for both… which would be better for a infant and toddler together? And I dont like the sit stand strollers cause we go to disneyland a lot so need something my toddler can sleep in also.

I have used both, the double ones are better in terms of comfort because both seats fully recline when they want to sleep and also because the weight of the children is distributed better but they are very wide so if you visit a lot of places that have narrow doorways etc that can be a problem.

The tandems are better for getting around with but the front seat never really lies flat,it can’t with a baby in the back and most are made just to partly recline so it is less comfortable for napping but might be enough for an older child,i also found that the weight of an older child in the front made it a bit harder to steer and the front wheels came off a lot,i got through about 4 tandems in two years.

The front seat is no good for a young baby because it doesn’t lay flat, the other option is to use a sling for your baby and a stroller for your toddler.

Twin Stroller With Car Seats

twin stroller with car seats
Where can I find a twin stroller with twin car seats – another words, strooler with car seat comb for twins?

twin stroller that has twin car seats in one

For our twin girls we used the Graco Duoglider
http://www.gracobaby.com/products/subcategory.asp?N=44+10417+54&act=A20

While the twins are small enought the Graco infant carrier/carseats lock right into the stroller. Once they’ve outgrown the infant carrier/carseats, then the stroller functions just fine as a toddler stroller.

Help picking out stroller toys?

I am getting a jogging stroller soon and want some toys to occupy my 8 month old daughter… any suggestions?

Are there some toys that your kids seem particularly fond of? Some of the toy bars seem really fun, but they don’t mention fitting on a stroller, just a car seat.

Thanks!!!

kolcraft stroller

I am having twins .we are looking for a stroller.any one help me?

we like
Kolcraft Contours Options Tandem II Stroller, Tangerine
by Kolcraft .is this a good choice? because we need the stroller from newborn to toddler.,and compatable with all car seats.

any suggestions?one more thing we can’t afford above 300$

I don’t have twins, but I have two small children. We bought just a double strolled for our girls, that came with matching car seats. However, as they got older we realized that they only needed the car seats in the seats until they were about 6 months old. We could just lay them down in the stroller, without having to take the car seat out of the stroller.

So, we bought something like this:
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=double+stroller&wrapid=tlif12859831736372&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=4375457763701325512&ei=1IumTIiIN4ufnAfA6r2RAQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CFQQ8wIwAg#

It didn’t cost us more then $150.00, we are a military family and wanted to make sure it was comfortable. Make sure that to seats on your stroller will fold down for when they are sleepy. They can go through doors easily, and that you don’t NEED the car seat to come out of the car for the newborns. (This is a serious hassle)

Can some one tell me the name of a childrens book?

I know that it is about a momma frog or toad and her baby, who is very unrully, and a Mrs Silver Fox tell her that she needs to have a good child like the one sitting by a tree that happens to be a doll. So frog/toad tries to take the doll home but cant get it into the stroller so she just takes the head of the doll and her real child some how ends up in the doll’s head because she put it on top of it.
Does this story ring any bell with anyone?

Maybe “Eulalie and the Hopping Head” by David Small?

Hope this helps!

whats the difference between a full stroller and a travel system stroller?

i’m looking at the strollers in the babies r us website and i can’t help but notice they have 3 different kinds of strollers. the jogging stroller is easy enough to figure out but i can’t seem to tell the difference between the full strollers and the travel system strollers. whats the difference?

Travel system is a infant car seat/carrier and stroller. A plain stroller will not have an attachable infant car seat. You need to decide which way you will go. You can do a travel system or you can do a stroller and convertible car seat (one that is rated for 5lbs and over) It’s just personal preference.

Can you recomend a good pushchair for a one year old? UK?

My baby is one this week…we bought a whole system when she was born which was ok…but the pushchair bit is far too bulky and heavy and the brake is awful…I want a really nice…lightweight buggy which will last till she is around 3….I don’t want to buy anymore..my first daughter went through 3 . I like modern designs…or very pretty ones…what do you think?
Thanks so much Atlas….but like my title says…I am in the UK

Aha! I can answer this one! I did tons of stroller research and I found the perfect one! It’s the Valco Latitude. It is a 3 wheeler but not a jogger and it is only 17 lbs (most of the others are almost twice as heavy!) It folds very small and is super light. The front wheel swivels or locks out. It has a nice, roomy cargo basket underneath which is very sturdy and holds a ton of stuff. It comes with the attachment straps to add the carseat when baby is a newborn (which you won’t need if your baby is already 1) but for the older babies the seat is super adjustable. Baby can sit almost completely upright to see the world or even lie completely flat for naps. It has a nice big canopy for sun shade and even comes with the wind/rain cover and cold weather boot included! All the other strollers I looked at that were in the same category ended up being much more expensive because the accessories are sold separately. I paid almost $300 for the whole thing and it was worth ever penny! It is able to be used up till 50 lbs too! So you should never have to buy another one down the road. Also I like to travel a lot and its super light for getting in and out of the trunk or on and off the plane etc. My daughter, Avary, and I (she’s 10 1/2 months old now) flew from CT to Hawaii -with multiple stops – for the first two weeks of Feb and it worked out great! Everyone was commenting on how cool it was. It even has a telescoping handle so if you are on the tall side it’s still very comfortable to push. Very maneuverable, smart design, looks great! I can’t say enough good about it! Check it out online at: http://www.babystrollershop.com/valco_latitude_single.htm
or right on the Valco website at http://valcobaby.com/products/strollers.html?tx_productcatalog_pi1%5Buid%5D=5
Hope this helps you! Cheers!

stroller bugaboo bee

I want to get the bugaboo bee stroller for my 4 month….?

baby girl. Just wanted to know if this is a good buy. Also the bee does not come with the bassinet, I don’t really need one do I? Right now her stroller is the one that attaches to the car seat. Is the bugaboo a good stoller for a 4 month old?

http://www.babyandmeboutique.com/products/bugaboo/bee.htm

That is a ridiculousy crazy price, Have you looked into a Peg Perego Pliko P3,
I two had a travel system with the spot for the carseat and hated it, I went online and found this one and OMG its the best stroller ever, I got it when my daughter was about 4 months old too and my 6 yr old nephew sat in it being silly and he could sit comfortably in it even at that age!

Here’s a link of the one i got:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2963509

But they have all kinds of differant colors and if you look around you can get it cheaper! I snagged mine at allbebaby.com for 200.00 bucks NEW!

Sorry I cant tell you much about the one you posted since i have never tried it. Good luck finding one though!

stroller attachment for standing

Need a travel stroller for 40lb+ child?

We need a lightweigh stroller that folds compactly for my 4 1/2 year old. We’re about to go on vacation and we plan on doing a ton of walking. We have a huge jogging stroller that we take with us on longer walking trips around here, but we’ll be getting on a plane and really need something that is smaller, but still comfortable for him. Please don’t respond that he should be walking at this age…I’ve seen that response to similar questions. We’re talking about walking around for hours each day, not just a stroll around the neighborhood. I’ve send these stand-up attachments for older kids where they can stand or sit (but those attach to strollers). Anything like that as a stand-alone? Any ideas? Thanks!

The Peg Perego Aria carries up to 45 lbs.
