The Limitless Selection of Strollers

A stroller is one of the most convenient pieces of baby equipment that you’ll buy. Since you will likely put a lot of miles on a stroller, it’s a good idea to get the style and model that will best fit your needs and your budget.

There are many types of baby strollers, and you may find that you end up buying more than one type, depending on how you use them.

You can choose from an umbrella stroller or lightweight stroller, a pram or carriage, a standard stroller, a dual stroller, or a jogging stroller, to name some of the styles numerous styles available for purchase.

An umbrella stroller is a simple stroller with a lightweight frame and a basic, nylon sling seat. It usually has a three-point buckle, and sometimes comes with a footrest and/or sunshade for the baby’s comfort. Their main selling points are their convenience and their small footprint - umbrella strollers fold up quickly and can be easily stowed in an airplane carry-on baggage compartment, for example. They are usually simple and lack the finer features of the larger strollers, such as swivel wheels.

Their lack of features makes an umbrella stroller a pretty dull and uninspiring choice for regular use. There are other lightweight strollers sold for babies currently that have many of the features of a larger stroller like a gear bag for parents and a padded, reclining seat for baby, but with the quick fold, easy portability convenience of the umbrella stroller.

A pram or carriage is the traditional stroller for an infant. They feature a mini-bassinet, sometimes removable so you can keep baby asleep, and a sunshade for an infant who is still lying down. These strollers transport your little one in style, but are obsolete once the child is able to sit up, and must not be used once a child is able to pull himself or herself to a sitting position without assistance.

Standard strollers come in a plethora of sizes and styles, with features that take time to consider. You will want to consider your needs and how you expect to use the stroller as you look at wheels, reclining seats, bassinet, cup holders, snack trays, baskets, suspension and so on. For example, to take long walks over generally smooth terrain (for example, a mall floor or good sidewalk) a larger stroller with good, large wheels and a comfortable seating area with a tray for baby’s snacks and toys and a tray for mom’s water bottle and keys is a smart choice. If you will rarely walk long distances, you may go with a stroller with fewer features.

A dual stroller comes in stadium seating, front-facing, side-by-side, or sit-and-stand models for twins or toddlers and infants. They have many of the features of standard strollers.

If you’re jogging often with the baby, or will frequently go “off trail” through the grass or over gravel, the jogging stroller is the best choice. Jogging strollers have large, bicycle type wheels that give baby a smooth ride as the caregiver bounces at a run or the terrain gets a little bumpy.

At what age do you change from the bassinet to the seat?

I have a stroller that came with a bassinet and a seat. My baby is 8 weeks old and she doesn’t like being in the bassinet much. When can I switch to the seat?

when ever you want. Remember that not all prams come with a bassinet and the ones that dont have new born babies in them right? I recommend you get a head support so shes nice and comfy. As long as the straps tighten enough for her to be secure then shes fine to go in the seat, just use a head support or her head might flop from side to side.
Oh yes, and recline it back as far as it can go. If its too upright then best use the bassinet

Bugaboo Pushchairs - Designer Fad?

Bugaboo pushchairs are massively popular right now.  But, eye-catching and pricey in equal measure, you have to ask whether turning heads is worth the cost.  The manufacturer and designer, Max Barenbrug would argue that a Bugaboo pushchair is more about a lifestyle choice than simply a mode of baby transportation, but is this simply a clever marketing tactic, designed to part excited new parents from their hard earned cash?

Since a cameo on Sex and the City, back in the late 90s a Bugaboo stroller has been the buggy of choice for many a celebrity and plenty of ordinary people looking for a more exciting and distinctive pram.  And there is no doubt that the trademark Bugaboo design is very stylish.  Minimalist and modern, with bright and funky seat covers, Bugaboo prams certainly stand out from the crowd.  The BMW of pushchairs, owning a Bugaboo is something of a status symbol and if you do opt to purchase one, be prepared for some envious stares from other parents!  

But, style is one thing, a functional and practical pushchair is another - Bugaboo claim that their buggies deliver on both fronts, but when put to the test do their pushchairs really offer something different, something better than the other prams out there?

Certainly, their lightweight aluminium chassis designs are strong and tough as well as being distinctive and minimalist.  Little details, like the reversible handle on the Cameleon pushchair suggest that real thought has been put into parent and child-friendly design features.  Being able to change your buggy from rear to forward facing with just the flip of a handle is a perfect time and hassle saver for frazzled parents!  Equally, the one-handed fold mechanism offered by the Bugaboo Bee shows that Barenbrug is in tune with the practical needs of parents.  So, perhaps the real reason for their popularity is the ability of the Bugaboo pushchair to combine style and glamour with functionality.  

Although, perhaps a luxury pushchair, Bugaboo prams are designed to last from birth until the toddler age, offering the perfect travel solution for every stage, without the need to buy anything else; so although a Bugaboo is a sizeable investment, it is a complete travel solution.

Again, the thought and care that has gone into designing the Bugaboo range can be seen in their choice of the Maxi Cosi car seat to convert the pushchair into a travel system.  Maxi Cosi design a fantastic range of infant carriers, with comfortable and snug seat design to keep young babies safe and secure.  And the Bugaboo seat units themselves have all been created with support and advice from leading paediatricians, to ensure the perfect support for tiny, delicate spines.

Stroller Recommendations?

We have a pre-toddler who’s 15 months old. She’s on the higher end of percentile (31 lbs, 32 1/2 inches).

We had an Peg Perego Aria OH and it fell apart after less than 2 years, horrible steering anyways! So now we just bought the Joovy Groove, haven’t opened the box yet but it has great reviews. Its lightweight, padded handles,has 2 seats, generous one handed recline,but downside is storage is minimal and wheels are plastic,like most lightweight strollers.

My girlfriend has the Baby Planet Solo Sport in Charcoal, very nice stroller, modern lines sharp looking not plastic at all. Steers like a dream, recline is generous but not one handed so not as convenient. Has great storage for a lightweight stroller, but canopy sucks which is a major reason I choose the Joovy over the Baby Planet.

How about the Maclarens? The lower end models have minimal recline but the higher ones like the Techno XLR hold up to 55 pounds and steer great, but I do hear they tend to tip when you put a diaper bag of the handles. They are pretty common, but if you don’t mind then they are common for a good reason!

Inglesina Swift and Zippy, or Zooper Twist have decent reviews. Ultimately I choose the Joovy Groove because my daughter is also extremely tall/heavy for her age so I needed something she would not grow out of anytime soon. The 2 seat covers are machine washable, handles are comfy, recline is deep,and it has the largest canopy of any umbrella type stroller on the market. I do wish the wheels were rubber but I can live with them. Good Luck!

Update: Tried my Joovy Groove and am very pleased! The color is beautiful (bright but not obnoxious blue). Handled awesome, did feel a tid bit shaky when I shook it side to side but overall very sturdy for an umbrella stroller. Recline is so easy and best of all it is roomy and comfy for daughter. Awesome canopy. I was afraid the fabric would be cheap feeling, but not all to my surprise.And it passed the diaper bag on handles test with flying colors, no tipping! It comes with 2 seats/2 canopies, Rainshield,reversible padded seat.

Also look into the Maclaren XLR, great looking stroller within your price range..It comes with a rain shield,adjustable handles,great recline,washable seat,ergonomic handles and beautiful color combinations. Terrific reviews ! Good luck with your stroller search, hope this helped!

Tips For Using a Side by Side Double Stroller

The double stroller is a miraculous invention for the multiple child household. It is easy to maneuver through malls, streets and parks. It is fairly lightweight and can be pushed very easily by even the tiniest of grandmothers. Weight Distribution

If you have children of different weights sitting beside each other than place the heavier items you bring with you behind the lighter weight child. This will distribute the weight more evenly and allow for easier maneuverability.

Heavy Terrain

If you plan on using your double stroller on dirt paths or grassy fields look for a brand with a heavy-duty wheel. If you did not purchase this type of double stroller than remove as much weight from the stroller as possible to make it easier to push.

Thirsty and Hungry Children

If you find yourself stopping every few minutes to give your child a drink or something to eat consider purchasing a few different accessories. There is a strap that will clip onto a baby bottle and then onto the stroller thereby preventing a child from flinging it out of the stroller. There is also a cup holder that can attach to the stroller beside the child’s seat and hold a sippy cup. Along with the cup holder you can purchase a small bag that will also attach to the stroller next to the child that can hold snack items.

Thirsty and Hungry Mommy and Daddy

There are cup holders available for adults too. Some are insulated to keep drinks hot or cold. Be very careful where you use the drink holder for a hot drink, as you do not want it to spill on your child. There are also organizers that can attach to the top of the stroller for parents to put their own snacks in.

Traveling with your Double Stroller

If you are flying with your stroller you can protect it from getting banged up by purchasing a carrying case. Usually you will need to fold up the double stroller and remove the wheels for packing. But this extra effort will save on wear and tear of the stroller.

Climate Control

Always be prepared for the elements. There are many coverings you can purchase that will protect your children from rain, wind, strong sunlight and even mosquitoes. Many of these coverings will fold up into small pouches for easy storage in your double stroller.

Keeping Calm

A bored child is usually a cranky child. There are now many toys on the market that can attach directly to your double stroller and keep you children occupied for many hours. Look for toys with bright colors and multiple functions so they will keep the child’s attention.

Spring Returns: Let the Good Times Roll…strollers and Their Babies

Spring has returned with an invitation to come outside and enjoy the fresh air. Winter’s ice and snow have melted away– gone forever like bad memories, the sidewalks and streets are dry, clear, and passable. Green replaces brown as the color of the local landscape. We have the Jeep double stroller, got it from Walmart.com (site to store) and I think they have it at babiesrus. It fits perfectly our Corolla. It is side by side, but I have never had a problem in stores with it. Also, the seats recline a bit if they fall asleep, has a cup holder and saddle bags on the side. It’s lightweight and less than 80 bucks.

Choosing a stroller for your child can be challenging - there is a multitude of stroller features which address comfort, of both parent and child, convenience for parents, as well as safety features.

Other convenience features often include under-seat storage baskets, for diaper bags or other packages, and may sometimes include a behind the seat organizer for stowing additional parent’s and child’s necessities.

You may find some strollers short on storage. If this is the case, a nice extra to have is a stroller hook which allows you to hang a diaper bag, purse, or shopping bag from the stroller.

Some of the most important stroller features are those relating to child safety. The first safety feature to consider is the seat belt or harness. Though a basic seat belt may suffice to secure older children, a multi-point harness provides the best security of babies and toddlers. Most strollers now come equipped with a 5-point harness - be careful to avoid those which do not have a multi-point harness.

Another important safety feature is stroller brakes for securely parking the stroller. Most strollers come with at least rear-wheel brakes. These are generally satisfactory for most situations. Though, I have found that parking on the side of inclines, with heavier children seated in the stroller, having only rear-wheel brakes locked, the stroller has a tendency to rotate facing downhill. Because of this, I tend to prefer strollers that also include front-wheel brakes.
Another set of stroller convenience features which can be greatly beneficial - particularly when you’re on the go and have your hands full - are considered stow-and-go features. These features can include single-action release to fold your stroller, one-handed opening and closing, and quick release wheels for large strollers (such as joggers) that often need to have wheels removed when transporting.

When shopping for a stroller, you’ll find there are a lot of stroller features - many more than discussed here. However, don’t feel overwhelmed with the feature selection. Start by making sure all of your basic needs are being met. Once you’ve identified the strollers which provide all the basic features you need, then compare the “extra” features to the price of each stroller to see if it’s offering the right value for you.

Dressing Your Baby - How To Protect Your Child From The Elements

When it comes to baby showers, you will all sorts of cute clothes featuring themed colours or the latest designs like “Thomas the Tank Engine” and “Sponge Bob Square Pants”. As a parent, once your baby is home you are more concerned with clothes which will help protect baby, keeping them warm and comfortable. Keep extra clothes for your baby like a sweater, or dress your baby in a romper suit under some warm clothing, so that you are prepared for what Mother Nature decides to bring. Tandem Strollers: Fun and Versatile For Both Your Children

If you have two children that are close in age or you have been blessed with twins you might want to consider a tandem stroller to help get your children around. Is there an evenflo double stroller/ infant seat sold together? In what store?

I like the way the handle is on the evenflo infant car seat. Does anybody know of any of those car seats sold along with the double stroller? If so, which store? I have been looking but I can’t find it.

You should be able to find strollers and car seats at Babies R Us, Target, or Wal-mart. If the stroller does not come with infant car seats, ANY Evenflo infant car seat will fit in. The same is also true of Graco strollers and seats! You can check on-line for availability for purchase. You might also want to check at your local Second Hand shops.

Hold off, period, because once you have your baby you might find you want nothing to do with an overpriced system designed so you never touch your baby.

That sort of high-end crap looked nice to me, too, at one time.

Thankfully I got a convertible car seat that stays in the car, and some nice slings and soft carriers.

Babies are meant to be touched, not toted in plastic carriers…

Stroller Opinion: Maclaren vs. Peg Perego?

I am looking for a light weight everyday stroller for my 5 month old girl that will hopefully be used through her toddler years. I was debating between the Maclaren Techno XL (which doesn’t have a snack tray) and the Peg Perego Pliko 3 (has a snack tray). Would love to hear any opinions about either one.

By looks and description they do appear to be quite comparable with the exception of the tray. I don’t know what the price difference is between but I personally liked having a tray for on-the-go eats for my child and the fact that it’s removable is great. Both strollers are adjustable for baby and parent which is key with a bit of storage underneath. My only other suggestion is to take it for a test drive around the store, try out the baby seat attachment option and be sure to collapse and carry it to see how that goes.
