The Limitless Selection of Strollers

A stroller is one of the most convenient pieces of baby equipment that you’ll buy. Since you will likely put a lot of miles on a stroller, it’s a good idea to get the style and model that will best fit your needs and your budget.

There are many types of baby strollers, and you may find that you end up buying more than one type, depending on how you use them.

You can choose from an umbrella stroller or lightweight stroller, a pram or carriage, a standard stroller, a dual stroller, or a jogging stroller, to name some of the styles numerous styles available for purchase.

An umbrella stroller is a simple stroller with a lightweight frame and a basic, nylon sling seat. It usually has a three-point buckle, and sometimes comes with a footrest and/or sunshade for the baby’s comfort. Their main selling points are their convenience and their small footprint – umbrella strollers fold up quickly and can be easily stowed in an airplane carry-on baggage compartment, for example. They are usually simple and lack the finer features of the larger strollers, such as swivel wheels.

Their lack of features makes an umbrella stroller a pretty dull and uninspiring choice for regular use. There are other lightweight strollers sold for babies currently that have many of the features of a larger stroller like a gear bag for parents and a padded, reclining seat for baby, but with the quick fold, easy portability convenience of the umbrella stroller.

A pram or carriage is the traditional stroller for an infant. They feature a mini-bassinet, sometimes removable so you can keep baby asleep, and a sunshade for an infant who is still lying down. These strollers transport your little one in style, but are obsolete once the child is able to sit up, and must not be used once a child is able to pull himself or herself to a sitting position without assistance.

Standard strollers come in a plethora of sizes and styles, with features that take time to consider. You will want to consider your needs and how you expect to use the stroller as you look at wheels, reclining seats, bassinet, cup holders, snack trays, baskets, suspension and so on. For example, to take long walks over generally smooth terrain (for example, a mall floor or good sidewalk) a larger stroller with good, large wheels and a comfortable seating area with a tray for baby’s snacks and toys and a tray for mom’s water bottle and keys is a smart choice. If you will rarely walk long distances, you may go with a stroller with fewer features.

A dual stroller comes in stadium seating, front-facing, side-by-side, or sit-and-stand models for twins or toddlers and infants. They have many of the features of standard strollers.

If you’re jogging often with the baby, or will frequently go “off trail” through the grass or over gravel, the jogging stroller is the best choice. Jogging strollers have large, bicycle type wheels that give baby a smooth ride as the caregiver bounces at a run or the terrain gets a little bumpy.

No matter what your requirements, there are strollers which will meet your needs!

At what age do you change from the bassinet to the seat?

I have a stroller that came with a bassinet and a seat. My baby is 8 weeks old and she doesn’t like being in the bassinet much. When can I switch to the seat?

when ever you want. Remember that not all prams come with a bassinet and the ones that dont have new born babies in them right? I recommend you get a head support so shes nice and comfy. As long as the straps tighten enough for her to be secure then shes fine to go in the seat, just use a head support or her head might flop from side to side.
Oh yes, and recline it back as far as it can go. If its too upright then best use the bassinet

What is the best baby jogger to purchase?

I tried a ton of strollers … well I actually bought a ton of them, tried them at home and returned all of them except one!

Definitely check out Chariot Carriers. They are the BEST strollers ever. And they are convertible. I use mine as a stroller and a jogging stroller, and once my daughter is a year old I am also getting a bike attachment.

They are very safe, well made and backed by a fantastic warranty.

I have a Cougar 1. My daughter loves it. She has huge windows to look out. There is an attached bug screen, rain cover and sun shade – you never have to remember to bring them! This is a fantastic stroller in the winter and the summer!

instep jogging strollers reviews

I am looking for a good running stroller, do you have any suggestions, mums that jog, which stroller do you ha?

Save your money. I’m a triathlete and distance runner, and I HATE jogging strollers. I bought an Instep before my son was born, which is inexpensive but had great reviews on Amazon. Hated it – it’s collecting dust in the garage. I borrowed a friend’s expensive BOB, and hated it too (although marginally less than the Instep). If you’re a dedicated runner, you’ll probably find that you can’t get a long enough stride without slouching forward at the waist to grip the handles, which causes all kinds of aches and pains you won’t want to deal with. You can do some good walks with any old stroller – I love the Graco that came with our travel system. If you need to go for a run, I think that’s a great time for Dad or Grandma to bond with the baby. 🙂

Bugaboo Pushchairs – Designer Fad?

Bugaboo pushchairs are massively popular right now.  But, eye-catching and pricey in equal measure, you have to ask whether turning heads is worth the cost.  The manufacturer and designer, Max Barenbrug would argue that a Bugaboo pushchair is more about a lifestyle choice than simply a mode of baby transportation, but is this simply a clever marketing tactic, designed to part excited new parents from their hard earned cash?

Since a cameo on Sex and the City, back in the late 90s a Bugaboo stroller has been the buggy of choice for many a celebrity and plenty of ordinary people looking for a more exciting and distinctive pram.  And there is no doubt that the trademark Bugaboo design is very stylish.  Minimalist and modern, with bright and funky seat covers, Bugaboo prams certainly stand out from the crowd.  The BMW of pushchairs, owning a Bugaboo is something of a status symbol and if you do opt to purchase one, be prepared for some envious stares from other parents!

But, style is one thing, a functional and practical pushchair is another – Bugaboo claim that their buggies deliver on both fronts, but when put to the test do their pushchairs really offer something different, something better than the other prams out there?

Certainly, their lightweight aluminium chassis designs are strong and tough as well as being distinctive and minimalist.  Little details, like the reversible handle on the Cameleon pushchair suggest that real thought has been put into parent and child-friendly design features.  Being able to change your buggy from rear to forward facing with just the flip of a handle is a perfect time and hassle saver for frazzled parents!  Equally, the one-handed fold mechanism offered by the Bugaboo Bee shows that Barenbrug is in tune with the practical needs of parents.  So, perhaps the real reason for their popularity is the ability of the Bugaboo pushchair to combine style and glamour with functionality.

Although, perhaps a luxury pushchair, Bugaboo prams are designed to last from birth until the toddler age, offering the perfect travel solution for every stage, without the need to buy anything else; so although a Bugaboo is a sizeable investment, it is a complete travel solution.

Again, the thought and care that has gone into designing the Bugaboo range can be seen in their choice of the Maxi Cosi car seat to convert the pushchair into a travel system.  Maxi Cosi design a fantastic range of infant carriers, with comfortable and snug seat design to keep young babies safe and secure.  And the Bugaboo seat units themselves have all been created with support and advice from leading paediatricians, to ensure the perfect support for tiny, delicate spines.

Perhaps initially, the success of Bugaboo pushchairs could have been attributed to clever marketing and celebrity endorsement, but ultimately, over ten years the substance behind the style is what has helped the brand to succeed.  Most pushchairs are manufactured by massive companies, who employ designers to create their products, but Bugaboo was established by Max Barenbrug, a designer with a vision of his own.  This vision is clear to see through the design of all of the Bugaboo strollers.  His ability to combine a fashion statement with practical and useful design features sets Bugaboo apart from the other brands out there.

Stroller Recommendations?

We have a pre-toddler who’s 15 months old. She’s on the higher end of percentile (31 lbs, 32 1/2 inches).

We’re looking for a new stroller for her. Something lightweight which can fold up easily. If it comes with a rain cover, that would be great. In addition, something with ample storage space would be ideal.

In terms of price, we’re not looking for Bugaboos, but we’d spend up to $300-350 for the right stroller.

Any advice would be appreciated.

We had an Peg Perego Aria OH and it fell apart after less than 2 years, horrible steering anyways! So now we just bought the Joovy Groove, haven’t opened the box yet but it has great reviews. Its lightweight, padded handles, has 2 seats, generous one handed recline, but downside is storage is minimal and wheels are plastic, like most lightweight strollers.

My girlfriend has the Baby Planet Solo Sport in Charcoal, very nice stroller, modern lines sharp looking not plastic at all. Steers like a dream, recline is generous but not one handed so not as convenient. Has great storage for a lightweight stroller, but canopy sucks which is a major reason I choose the Joovy over the Baby Planet.

How about the Maclarens? The lower end models have minimal recline but the higher ones like the Techno XLR hold up to 55 pounds and steer great, but I do hear they tend to tip when you put a diaper bag of the handles. They are pretty common, but if you don’t mind then they are common for a good reason!

Inglesina Swift and Zippy, or Zooper Twist have decent reviews. Ultimately I choose the Joovy Groove because my daughter is also extremely tall/heavy for her age so I needed something she would not grow out of anytime soon. The 2 seat covers are machine washable, handles are comfy, recline is deep, and it has the largest canopy of any umbrella type stroller on the market. I do wish the wheels were rubber but I can live with them. Good Luck!

Update: Tried my Joovy Groove and am very pleased! The color is beautiful (bright but not obnoxious blue). Handled awesome, did feel a tid bit shaky when I shook it side to side but overall very sturdy for an umbrella stroller. Recline is so easy and best of all it is roomy and comfy for daughter. Awesome canopy. I was afraid the fabric would be cheap feeling, but not all to my surprise. And it passed the diaper bag on handles test with flying colors, no tipping! It comes with 2 seats/2 canopies, Rainshield, reversible padded seat.

Also look into the Maclaren XLR, great looking stroller within your price range..It comes with a rain shield, adjustable handles, great recline, washable seat, ergonomic handles and beautiful color combinations. Terrific reviews ! Good luck with your stroller search, hope this helped!

Tips For Using a Side by Side Double Stroller

The double stroller is a miraculous invention for the multiple child household. It is easy to maneuver through malls, streets and parks. It is fairly lightweight and can be pushed very easily by even the tiniest of grandmothers. There are numerous accessories that can be purchased to keep the children safe from the elements as well as increase storage capacity. These few tips will make the double stroller even more efficient.

Weight Distribution

If you have children of different weights sitting beside each other than place the heavier items you bring with you behind the lighter weight child. This will distribute the weight more evenly and allow for easier maneuverability.

Heavy Terrain

If you plan on using your double stroller on dirt paths or grassy fields look for a brand with a heavy-duty wheel. If you did not purchase this type of double stroller than remove as much weight from the stroller as possible to make it easier to push.

Thirsty and Hungry Children

If you find yourself stopping every few minutes to give your child a drink or something to eat consider purchasing a few different accessories. There is a strap that will clip onto a baby bottle and then onto the stroller thereby preventing a child from flinging it out of the stroller. There is also a cup holder that can attach to the stroller beside the child’s seat and hold a sippy cup. Along with the cup holder you can purchase a small bag that will also attach to the stroller next to the child that can hold snack items.

Thirsty and Hungry Mommy and Daddy

There are cup holders available for adults too. Some are insulated to keep drinks hot or cold. Be very careful where you use the drink holder for a hot drink, as you do not want it to spill on your child. There are also organizers that can attach to the top of the stroller for parents to put their own snacks in.

Traveling with your Double Stroller

If you are flying with your stroller you can protect it from getting banged up by purchasing a carrying case. Usually you will need to fold up the double stroller and remove the wheels for packing. But this extra effort will save on wear and tear of the stroller.

Climate Control

Always be prepared for the elements. There are many coverings you can purchase that will protect your children from rain, wind, strong sunlight and even mosquitoes. Many of these coverings will fold up into small pouches for easy storage in your double stroller.

Keeping Calm

A bored child is usually a cranky child. There are now many toys on the market that can attach directly to your double stroller and keep you children occupied for many hours. Look for toys with bright colors and multiple functions so they will keep the child’s attention.

These are just a few tips to keep mom, dad and babies all happy and content on outings with their double stroller. Remember to try and plan ahead for all events and circumstances and you will find the pushing is much easier!! Happy strolling!!

How to Choose Your New Baby Stroller

Buying baby pushchairs should be a fun, exciting experience for first-time parents but can be very tasking if you don’t know what you are really looking for. It’s a good idea to check out what is available in the shops and on the Internet. If you have friends or family with infants ask them what they recommend and why.

There are a lot of different types and styles of baby buggies available on the market. Price ranges vary based on the brands and the additional features included with the product. Here are some good tips that you can follow when buying prams and pushchairs.

Safety First

Getting the right stroller or baby carriage is more than just choosing the most popular or cheapest brand that you can get your hands on. You need to keep in mind that safety should always come first. Your very precious baby will be in the pushchair when you travel so you have to make sure that your infant is as safe, happy and as comfortable in it as possible.

Your Infant’s Age

Most pushchairs are made for a recommended age. It’s wise to get a baby buggy that’s right for your infant’s age. If you have a newborn, get a seat that reclines as newborns can’t sit up on their own yet. A pushchair that has multiple reclining points is better so you can easily adjust the seat according to your baby’s needs. Also, a product like a travel system that you can use with your infant’s car seat is a good product so you don’t have to transfer your newborn when getting in and out of the car. There are also removable seat strollers you can use as a travel bassinet. You can choose to either get a stroller with the seat facing the rear or the front.

How Many Passengers or Users

If you have twins or other young kids, you can choose to get a pushchair that can accommodate more than one child. Aside from a single stroller, you will also find double, triple and quadruple pushchairs. When looking for multiple pushchairs, keep in mind that the product should suit the needs of all of its passengers and you should consider where you will be using it. If you need to take your twins, triplets or quadruplets shopping and the stores that you frequent haven’t got very wide aisles you might fare better with an inline pushcahir rather than a side by side buggy.Getting a multiple pushchair is recommended only if your kids are of the same age group. Newborns need a seat that can recline and older kids should have enough space so they can stretch out their legs comfortably.

Where You Use the Pushchair

Baby Buggies are designed for specific grounds or floor characteristics. Consider the places where you are going to use the pushchair. Do you plan to use it frequently inside malls, on the sidewalks or in the countryside?

Looking for the right baby pushchairs is very important. Do a bit of research and if you can, you might want to try out the pushchair before buying it.

Spring Returns: Let the Good Times Roll…strollers and Their Babies

Spring has returned with an invitation to come outside and enjoy the fresh air. Winter’s ice and snow have melted away– gone forever like bad memories, the sidewalks and streets are dry, clear, and passable. Green replaces brown as the color of the local landscape. The Sun is shining bright; there is a fresh crispness in the air as gentle breezes enter through the newly opened windows delivering the invitation. The temperatures hover around sixty degrees. Parents read the invitation again: “Come, come outside and play, enjoy the outdoors with me”…signed “Spring”.

Mothers and Fathers, who have safely bundled up their babies and toddlers with layers of clothes during the winter months and carried them over the ice and snow, begin to slowly return to the neighborhood sidewalk and streets, parks, and malls, pushing their small babies along in their strollers. New parents or parents-to-be begin to shop for baby strollers so they can join other neighborhood moms or dads who set out for the great outdoors in response to spring’s invitation.

Life and people like the budding bushes, flowers, and trees reappear in neighborhoods adding themselves to the mosaic street scenes of springtime. The exercising, health minded parents, in steady paces push their baby or babies in their single or double jogging strollers putting in their scheduled run for the day.

The cyclist enthusiasts lovingly secure their precious little ones in the bike trailers already attached to their choice of transportation, and pedal their way around the neighborhood in streets and on sideways with destinations unknown. Their babies and toddlers in their safety compartment enjoy the nice fresh air from their modern day “horse-driven” carriage that they have been deprived of all winter long.

With only a sweater or jacket as needed outerwear, they regally take in the sights and sounds of the beautiful fresh spring views as the gentle breezes caress their little faces through the screened windows of the enclosed cart. Mom or dad supplies the “horsepower” in front of them as they enjoy their “royal ride” through neighborhood of the local stately mansions.

Elsewhere, neighborhood moms, with Spring’s invitation in hand and the other hand on a stroller, join each other leisurely pushing their infants along side by side in single or double umbrella strollers sharing their stories of motherhood, and how they survived the winter doldrums being locked up indoors all season long. Each new breath of spring’s fresh air is really a sigh of relief of freedom for these winter prisoners. Off to the local park they go to join other proud parents to present their blessed children to each other (maybe for the first time), share parenting strategies and techniques, and catch up on the latest happenings in their neighborhoods.

Strollers these days come in many brand names, such BOB, Maclaren, TikeTech, and Bugaboo with different models that cater to sports minded parents, all-terrain, walking, jogging, cycling or hybrids. There are wide varieties of shapes and sizes for single, double, or triples passengers. They have umbrella type coverings, retractable canopies, prams, open air types, or enclosed cabins. Like in a paint store the colors are plentiful. There are three wheelers and four wheelers. There are set wheels and swivel wheels. They may have one carrying compartment or multiple compartments for the journey’s needed cargo. There’s something to meet every parent’s need to safely share the lovely outdoors and warm weather with their precious little child or children.

So let the good times roll as moms and dads, walking, jogging, or biking return to the sidewalks and streets of our neighborhoods; and reminds us all to look for that invitation to enjoy the outdoors, the fresh air, and the new life all around us, especially when we peek into those strollers to get a glimpse of the cute little babies who are their passengers.

I am looking for a jogging stroller that I can use to jog around town, on trails, and also take to the mall.?

I would like something that could fit into the back of a small car and something that isn’t too heavy since I live on the second floor of an apartment. Does anyone have any recommendations?

There’s a link to the one that I have. I’ve never actually jogged with it, but I use it to walk 4 miles at a time 5 days a week. It fits into the trunk of my Toyota Corolla with room to spare for groceries. You have optional swivel or locked front wheel. The swivel makes it super easy to navigate the mall, I can steer with just one hand. The handle bar is adjustable for taller and shorter people. You also have the option for either 3 point or 5 point harness. The seat totally reclines. There’s a basket underneath. There’s also a tray in front for baby to have a snack and drink. Weight limit is 50lbs, which is great for when the kid is older and you go for a day trip to a zoo or amusement park so they can take a break from walking all the time. As far as not too heavy–I can’t say that its the easiest thing in the world to lift, but if you pull it backwards up the stairs you don’t actually have to lift the whole thing.

Hope that helps.

What is the best time of day to go for a walk?

It will be me and my 5 month old baby girl and our Jeep Jog stroller. Daily I hope. Sometimes big sis and Dad may join us.

Mid morning is almost always the best time of day to go on a walk. I’m not saying that this is mid morning, but I used to get up at 5:45am, though I don’t have any kids and I’m not married (I’m 17 years old). I have a really complicated and painful back problem, and before school was the only time I could try to ‘walk it off’.

Two Chairs For Two Kids, The Double Pushchair

Preparing for a second child can be a little worrying. You’ll be able to make use of a lot of the clothes, feeding accessories and toys from your first child, but what about the pushchair. A pushchair is an important part of a child’s younger years, so you want to make sure that it is comfortable and of good quality. Now that you have two young children, you may want to consider getting a double pushchair.

These particular pushchairs come in a couple of designs, the tandem chair style and the double pram type. Buying a double pushchair is quite a big purchase so you’ll need to consider a few factors before settling on one.

Here is a guide to these two types of double pushchair, giving you some much-needed advice on their pros and cons and hopefully making your decision an easier one.

A: The Tandem Pushchair. This double pushchair is almost the same as the original one seated kind. It has been made with the chairs positioned one in front of the other, so that your children will sit front to back with one behind. This is probably the most popularly sold double pushchair type, because it is durable and very lightweight. This variety is able to fold up into a compact size, making it easy to store away when not in use. The seat positioning has the added benefit of separating the kids from one another; this helps to avoid any quarrels or arguments, which can sometimes seem endless from our point of view.

To make the whole process of going out with your children easier, the tandem pushchairs come with retractable back seats. If you also use a baby car seat then this car seat can be put directly into the double pushchair. This speeds up the whole process, and leaves you smiling and stress free.

B: The double prams. This double pushchair has one difference to the previous design; its seats are positioned side by side. Your children can sit beside each other; this is a good choice if your babies get on well. This added width makes this double pushchair very stable and well balanced, so there is less worry of an accident. The difficulty with the extra width is that it makes the pushchairs difficult to move in tight spaces or even fit into your car boot. Unfortunately this style of pushchair doesn’t have the option of retractable seats, but on the plus side it moves much quicker and has better manoeuvrability in comparison to the tandem types. So if you like jogging with your children, or going out for long walks in the countryside then this is the choice for you.

Both of the double pushchair designs offer basically the same function; they give your two children a safe and comfortable mode of transport, and help you to take them out with little effort. If you want a quiet and calm outing experience with your kids around the city or in the park, then the tandem is for you. If you like to go on long trips out of town, have well behaved kids and own a large vehicle, then the double pram might suit you best.

Double pushchairs are available everywhere and kits can even be ordered online and assembled at home. The usual prices go from $200 all the way up to $600, which is well within the reach of most people’s budgets. You’ll find that these double pushchairs can save you a lot of time and energy, also just think you can reuse them the next time you have a baby.

About the Author

Double Pushchair is essential if you have twins or two young children. Double Pushchair saves time and energy for regular family outings.

double stroller question!?

i am 7 months pregnant with baby # 2 and when he/she is born our first daughter will be 12 months and so we will need a double stroller. so i need advice on one that would fit in the back of our cars (my husband has a 98 dodge neon and i have a 04 pt cruiser, both that lack in trunk space) price is not so much the issue as long as its around $200 or less . any advice on a double stroller that folds up nice and compact?

We have the Jeep double stroller, got it from (site to store) and I think they have it at babiesrus. It fits perfectly our Corolla. It is side by side, but I have never had a problem in stores with it. Also, the seats recline a bit if they fall asleep, has a cup holder and saddle bags on the side. It’s lightweight and less than 80 bucks.

The Advantages of Sit and Stand Strollers

In the past, parents found it hard to attend to two kids all at the same time, while they are out of the house. Baby carriages or prams did not help because previous models were only available with one seat. But with current innovations, it is possible for you to keep a watchful eye on your two children. Sit and stand strollers are popular are recently the leading choices among parents that have a baby and a toddler. The strollers nowadays are available in different types. Examples of these are jogging strollers, double strollers, twin strollers, and triplet strollers. If you want, you can purchase a car seat stroller that you can fit easily into the backseat of your vehicle.

Perfect for Toddlers and Babies:

Sit and stand strollers are designed specifically for parents that are taking care of both a toddler and an infant. These strollers allow the baby to recline or sit comfortably in front while the older sibling can stand on the platform at the back. He or she holds on the bar, facing forward. Alternatively, your toddler can sit on the jump seat, facing you while you are pushing the stroller around. This type of stroller proves to be very convenient because it allows you to keep watch of both your children at the same time.

Better than Conventional Strollers:

Compared to conventional double strollers, sit and stand strollers come with more advantages. They are more compact and lighter, which is why they are easier to push around or maneuver through narrow passages. A sit and stand stroller can be folded up to a smaller size, making it easy for you to store it into small spaces in your home. Since your older child is staying at the back, the added weight lets you control the stroller easily.

Safety Guidelines:

Sit and stand strollers are incorporated with a platform for your toddler. This is designed in a way that your child can step on it and off from it conveniently, without your assistance. This is a great benefit. The most common guideline provided by the manufacturer, when it comes to the use of a sit and stand stroller, states that your older child has to be around two and a half years old. He or she should not exceed forty inches and/or forty-five pounds.

Used as a Car Seat:

If you want your sit and stand stroller to function as a car seat stroller, there are manufacturers in the market that do provide you with this additional feature. There are some sit and stand strollers that can accommodate a car baby seat within it. This is a practical type of stroller, especially if you want to easily transport your baby from the vehicle to his or her stroller.

Putting infant in jogging stroller?

So I’m looking for a double stroller, but would like one where the children sit side by side. Here in Canada all I can find is the jogging ones, which are fine because they have good wheels on them..but I’m used to using a stroller car seat combo so I can take a small baby. Can you use a stroller for a infant baby without a car seat? Any recommendations on how to safely secure the infant in?

Most joggers have an accessory bar you can order to put on the stroller which allows the infant seat to sit on it.

We have a phil & teds that has the infant seat bar.

Which Stroller Features Are Right For You?

Choosing a stroller for your child can be challenging – there is a multitude of stroller features which address comfort, of both parent and child, convenience for parents, as well as safety features.

Many stroller features address the comfort of the parent in addition to the comfort of the child. Stroller features such as extra padding in the seating area helps to provide maximum comfort for the child while sitting or lying down. Extra seat area padding can also help to absorb some of the vibration while strolling. Though, if you’re looking to provide your child great comfort while riding, the stroller features to consider are air-filled rubber tires and a suspension system. These features will take the vibrations out of any ride just like a luxury vehicle.

Most strollers offer other comfort features for your child which include a canopy to keep your child protected from the strong sun. Often times, strollers also offer a plastic sun-roof so you can look down upon your child without disrupting them and let your child look up at you. Though this is a common stroller feature, many canopied strollers do not come with a sun roof so be sure to check the stroller specification sheet before you purchase. Other child comfort features can include bug netting, to protect the child from insects, and rain hoods to keep children dry should you get caught in the rain.

Many strollers offer convenience features which are intended to make the parent’s strolling experience more enjoyable. Stroller convenience features can include parent trays, which can hold adult-sized cups and other small items such as keys or mobile phone, as well as child snack trays which can store your child’s snacks, drink, and toys. Other convenience features often include under-seat storage baskets, for diaper bags or other packages, and may sometimes include a behind the seat organizer for stowing additional parent’s and child’s necessities.

You may find some strollers short on storage. If this is the case, a nice extra to have is a stroller hook which allows you to hang a diaper bag, purse, or shopping bag from the stroller.

Some of the most important stroller features are those relating to child safety. The first safety feature to consider is the seat belt or harness. Though a basic seat belt may suffice to secure older children, a multi-point harness provides the best security of babies and toddlers. Most strollers now come equipped with a 5-point harness – be careful to avoid those which do not have a multi-point harness.

Another important safety feature is stroller brakes for securely parking the stroller. Most strollers come with at least rear-wheel brakes. These are generally satisfactory for most situations. Though, I have found that parking on the side of inclines, with heavier children seated in the stroller, having only rear-wheel brakes locked, the stroller has a tendency to rotate facing downhill. Because of this, I tend to prefer strollers that also include front-wheel brakes.
Another set of stroller convenience features which can be greatly beneficial – particularly when you’re on the go and have your hands full – are considered stow-and-go features. These features can include single-action release to fold your stroller, one-handed opening and closing, and quick release wheels for large strollers (such as joggers) that often need to have wheels removed when transporting.

When shopping for a stroller, you’ll find there are a lot of stroller features – many more than discussed here. However, don’t feel overwhelmed with the feature selection. Start by making sure all of your basic needs are being met. Once you’ve identified the strollers which provide all the basic features you need, then compare the “extra” features to the price of each stroller to see if it’s offering the right value for you.

Furthermore, interesting upgrades are added into select US models of these strollers like the spacious basket for your all your precious valuables and the four wheel design from the European’s 3 wheel strollers which significantly adds to a more stable stroll.

Can you tell me which buggy is easy to use, versatile, compact, comfortable, best all-rounder from birth?quinny?

quinny buzz? quinny speedi? pushchair, stroller, pram, maxi cosi?

I have a quinny buzz and its been nothing but trouble….the tyres are a nightmare, they keep going down constantly, its very wide at the back so its hard to get through doorways and not get stuck, I have a car and I have to take the wheels off the pram to fit it in the boot and also if you use the bus its very difficult to manovere onto it.

I got a normal pram when my little boy was 5 months and I am getting rid of my Quinny.

Next baby car seat, for 9 month old 23 lbs?

My son is 9 months/ 23 lbs. I am confused about car seats.

We bought new a 3 point, rear facing seat when he was born. (weight limit 22lbs)

1) what age / weight do I stop using a rear facing seat? (I can buy one that goes up to 30lbs , but is rear facing only to 12 months?

2) Can I buy a front facing seat, with a handle, for a 23 lbs and up baby?
Thanks much

1) 1 year AND 20 lbs is the absolute minimum a child should be turned forward-facing, but for maximum safety, your child should rear-face for as long as possible. Forward-facing children under 2 are 4-5 times more likely to be injured in a crash than rear-facing children. All car seat experts recommend rear-facing to the weight/height limit of your convertible car seat (30-35 lbs for weight/1″ of hard shell above the head for height).

2) The only 2 forward-facing seats I know of that are able to be carried/hooked to strollers are the Orbit toddler seat (hook to stroller) and the Sit & Stroll. There are some infant seats (rear-facing only) that harness to 30 lbs and have a handle, but they are for rear-facing only (Graco SafeSeat, Chicco KeyFit 30, and Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 30)

Here are the commonly recommended convertibles. As you can see, they range in price.

Cosco Scenera – around $45 (stay away from the one with the overhead shield); rear-faces to 35 lbs; forward-faces to 40. Will last most kids until around age 3 when they outgrow it by height

Safety 1st Avenue – around $75; rear-faces to 35lbs; forward-faces to 40. Will last most kids until around age 3 when they outgrow it by height

Evenflo Triumph Advance – around $129; rear-faces to 35lbs; forward-faces to 50. Will last most kids until around age 5; has a nice high harness height; easy to install; lots of padding

First Years True Fit – around $175; rear-faces to 35lbs; forward-faces to 65 lbs. Will last most kids until age 5-6; nice high harness height; easy to install; great padding

Sunshine Kids Radian 65 – around $199; rear-faces to 33lbs; forward-faces to 65; Will last most kids until age 5-6; nice high harness height; folds for easy carrying; steel frame

Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Decathalon – start around $219 on sale; rear-faces to 33 or 35 lbs depending on age & model; forward-face to 65 lbs; Will last most kids until age 4.5-5; nice and padded; super-easy to install when using LATCH

Recaro Signo/Como – start around $175 on sale, depending on model; rear-face to 35 lbs; forward-face to 70; Will last most kids until around age 5-6. Super padded

No matter what seat you chose or how expensive it is, it’s not going to be safe unless it is installed & used correctly. 8 out of 10 car seats are installed/used incorrectly. Have yours checked by a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. They’ll show you how to install & use it correctly.

Internationally Know For High Quality:

The Recaro baby seat is new on the scene but is quickly making its mark. The German based company Recaro, who is known internationally for their high quality lines of specialty seating, has recently jumped into the child safety seating industry. Their product lines are really making an impact as the company relies on its knowledge of specialty seating to combine comfort and safety.

100 Years of Experience:

The company has spent over one hundred years building a great reputation as a seating manufacturer. They have specialized in seating for boats and airplanes, only recently breaking into baby seats. The reaction to their seats has been good and sales have began to take off. So, why have they been able to penetrate the market so well?

Recaro Did Their Homework:

Because Recaro has done their homework. Recaro baby seats offer a multitude of great safety features. Plus, their clients appreciate that the seats offer their children something that is not only safe, but also comfortable and convenient. All of the company’s seats are manufactured from a solid aluminum frame, and Expanded Polystyrene foam is equipped around the headrest on all models. These are features that some other products only offer at a higher cost.

Easy to Use:

The Recaro baby seat also often uses a specially designed latch system that makes adjustments simple. As a result, parents find that their children are able to use the seats as they grow. Most models also employ a special clip on the main chest belt that makes it easy for parents to safely strap in their children.

The only criticism that the company has faced is that they have yet to perfect a good ergonomic design for their seats. Although their products are made with high quality fibers to make them soft to the touch, the shape of the chairs still leaves something to be desired. But, with a long history of developing fine products, there is little doubt that the Recaro baby seat will soon fix this problem and take a top spot in the industry.

The Recaro Baby Seat is made to protect your baby from harm. Recaro car seats do a good job of keeping children of all ages restrained in the car so that you can keep your eyes on the road. Visit and see for yourself why the Recaro brand should be at the top of your list for a baby seat.

Dressing Your Baby – How To Protect Your Child From The Elements

When it comes to baby showers, you will all sorts of cute clothes featuring themed colours or the latest designs like “Thomas the Tank Engine” and “Sponge Bob Square Pants”. As a parent, once your baby is home you are more concerned with clothes which will help protect baby, keeping them warm and comfortable. Your baby is very sensitive to nature, so you want clothes suitable for the current season in which they are born in.

Those babies born in Summer or in a warm climate, you will be concerned about the sunlight and overheating for baby’s sensitive skin. Exposure to light with the damage to the ozone layer means more protection is necessary. You will want to put up a shade over your baby’s pram or baby seat in the car whilst you are outside to protect from the sun’s harmful rays. Out on the beach you can buy the modern pop-up tents and parasols which are very useful. Provide lots of ventilation so that your baby can still get fresh air and not overheated. Keep your baby away from the sun’s direction so it doesn’t get in their eyes.

All-in-Ones are great lightweight summer wear made of cotton, a breathable material for baby which are easier to put on than a top and bottoms. They are comfy and extras can put in a baby bag for those little accidents that can occur. summer means that your baby will not need shoes whilst you are pushing them around in a stroller with temperatures going up to the 80’s in Fahrenheit. Always keep a blanket with you for when you enter air conditioned buildings, when the air temperature may suddenly drop.

Babies are best dressed in layers of clothes when it comes to Winter. There will be variations in temperature from the cold outside to heated buildings. You will be avoiding staying outside for too long but transferring your baby from a car to a building, will still require some warm clothing. Those living in areas which have a lot of snow still need to be aware of sunburn if there is sunlight, as it bounces back from all angles. Wrapping your baby up with hats, mittens and socks will keep most of their body heat in. Babysuits which button all the way down are excellent as a few popperstuds can be undone without too much fuss for your baby, to allow some of that heat to escape.

Dressing your baby in layers works for most weather conditions, as a layer can be taken on or off as required. Baby is very sensitive to sudden temperature changess, more so than an adult, so layers work well to combat this. Keep extra clothes for your baby like a sweater, or dress your baby in a romper suit under some warm clothing, so that you are prepared for what Mother Nature decides to bring. Keeping new mothers on their toes! is what the seasons do!

Does anyone know how to attach the bassinet part on an Emmaljunga stroller?

I can attach the stroller seat but can’t figure out the bassinet. Is there another part I need? This is an older model, probably from the 80’s. So obviously is used and maybe missing a part. If someone has or had one and knows how to do it, I would appreciate the help. Thanks

I would say missing a part you can look it up online with the company.

Tandem Strollers: Fun and Versatile For Both Your Children

If you have two children that are close in age or you have been blessed with twins you might want to consider a tandem stroller to help get your children around. Tandem strollers are a style of double stroller which have seats one behind the other in a manner which resembles a tandem bicycle. With a tandem stroller you can put one child in the front seat and one child in the back seat, and know that both are perfectly safe and are able to see the world as you go about your daily business.

Tandem strollers can be more versatile than side-by-side double strollers because they are the same width as a single stroller and can get through narrower spaces more easily than the side-by-side strollers. One example is trying to shop in a large department store for clothes. Most side-by-side double strollers will not get through the narrow aisles of the clothing department. Tandem strollers, on the other hand, can be effectively and safely navigated through the labyrinth of clothes without having to worry about catching the stroller on a display or clothing rack.

Like their single seated counterparts, most tandem strollers are easily collapsed for storage in either your home or automobile.

There are some models which can accommodate car seat or even two car seats into the frame of the tandem stroller. This allows you to easily transfer your child in his or her car seat directly into the stroller without disturbing him or her. This feature can also be helpful when getting back into your vehicle as well.

There are tandem strollers which have a rear footboard for your toddler instead of a second seating area. This style of tandem stroller is ideal if your older child has reached the age of independence and wants to do everything for himself. And the rear footboard area usually has a rear seat in case your ‘big kid’ gets tired and needs to sit for a little while.

Another style of tandem stroller is the tandem jogging stroller. Tandem jogging strollers are wonderful for parents who enjoy the outdoors and exercise and want to share that love with their small children. The children can see and enjoy the world at the same time the parent can get the exercise that they need as well.
Using a tandem jogging stroller is a great way for a parent to help their children understand that exercise is important. Since young children tend to mimic anything their parents do, this kind of activity can hopefully instill the idea of exercise and a good healthy lifestyle.

So when you are shopping for a stroller or other baby accessories you might want to consider tandem strollers if you have children that are close in age or twins. The convenience of requiring only one stroller handle both children helps keep your worries to a minimum. A tandem stroller can be easily bought online or at a local baby outlet.

Stroller Evenflo

stroller evenflo

Is there an evenflo double stroller/ infant seat sold together? In what store?

I like the way the handle is on the evenflo infant car seat. Does anybody know of any of those car seats sold along with the double stroller? If so, which store? I have been looking but I can’t find it.

You should be able to find strollers and car seats at Babies R Us, Target, or Wal-mart. If the stroller does not come with infant car seats, ANY Evenflo infant car seat will fit in. The same is also true of Graco strollers and seats! You can check on-line for availability for purchase. You might also want to check at your local Second Hand shops.
I hope this helps!!

Orbit Infant Travel Stroller System: Questions?

Will there be any changes in the current model this year? Have there been any changes? I’m due in july, 2008 and I’m curious if I should hold off buying this stroller in case an updated system goes on the market. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful replies!!
Thanks so much for the very interesting link! If you have any suggestions on brand name carriers you like for newborns I would really appreciate it! Thanks, again!

Hold off, period, because once you have your baby you might find you want nothing to do with an overpriced system designed so you never touch your baby.

That sort of high-end crap looked nice to me, too, at one time.

Thankfully I got a convertible car seat that stays in the car, and some nice slings and soft carriers.

Babies are meant to be touched, not toted in plastic carriers…

Of interest:

The ‘Maya Wrap’ ring sling and ‘Ergo’ carrier are both excellent.

Snack Stroller Tray

snack stroller tray

Stroller Opinion: Maclaren vs. Peg Perego?

I am looking for a light weight everyday stroller for my 5 month old girl that will hopefully be used through her toddler years. I was debating between the Maclaren Techno XL (which doesn’t have a snack tray) and the Peg Perego Pliko 3 (has a snack tray). Would love to hear any opinions about either one.

By looks and description they do appear to be quite comparable with the exception of the tray. I don’t know what the price difference is between but I personally liked having a tray for on-the-go eats for my child and the fact that it’s removable is great. Both strollers are adjustable for baby and parent which is key with a bit of storage underneath. My only other suggestion is to take it for a test drive around the store, try out the baby seat attachment option and be sure to collapse and carry it to see how that goes.

Schwinn Jogging Stroller Free Runner

schwinn jogging stroller free runner

schwinn jogging stroller free runner

A good double jogging stroller for the city?

I live in San Diego and LOVE to go on walks. I need a great double jogging stroller that can be used for long walks on various terrain, and double as a mall/shopping stroller if necessary (e.g. fit through doorways).

Anyone have any personal experience with something fitting these criteria??

My sister has twins and is also an avid runner training for marathons all the time. She loves her Schwinn Free Wheeler ST Double. It has a lot of the luxuries of a regular stroller but it is made for jogging. She got it on which is where we have bought a ton of our baby gear over the years. They have a wide variety of jogging strollers. I definately recommend any of the Schwinn line. They offer one in every price range. You definately get your money’s worth!
